FAQs

Can I see a counsellor on my own?

You can come on your own, but there is more chance of finding a resolution if both partners attend.

Is my counselling confidential?

We will not give your name or any information about you to anyone outside Relate unless someone’s personal safety is at risk.

How long is an appointment?

Usually up to one hour at the same time of the same day of each week.

Do I have to pay?

You will be asked for a one off registration fee of £25 so that we can arrange your appointments. You will be asked to pay our counselling fee of £60.00 for your appointments. Fess are prepaid at the time of booking. We are a charity and always try to help if our fees are a problem, so please speak to our appointments team to find out if you might qualify for a bursary. Bursaries are subject to funds being available.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

Counselling works best with regular meetings with your counsellor. Cancellation requires advanced scheduling and appointments are difficult to reallocate to other clients. Our cancellation charges are:

• To allow clients time to check availability, there is no charge for cancellations made 5 days or more before the next appointment.

• For cancellations made less than 5 days before the appointment 100% of the fee is charged.

Cancellation fees will be taken from your prepayment when you cancel and you will be asked to prepay your next appointment. Pay by cash, credit/debitcard or cheque, on the phone, at Relate or by Paypal at www.relateberkshire.org.

Does Relate comply with quality standards?

Relate Berkshire is a member of the Relate Federation and the BACP (British Association of Counselling Psychotherapy).

Are Relate counsellors specially trained?

Our counsellors are carefully selected and receive specialist training. Their qualifications are available on request to the management.

Is there an evaluation?

We maintain our high standards by continuing training and supervision. Please help us to evaluate our service by completing one of the feedback forms on this website or after your counselling. You can see the summary of the evaluation on our feedback section and on each page of this website.

What should I do if I have a complaint?

If you wish to complain, a copy of the leaflet ‘How to complain about Relate services’ is available from the management.

Will I have to wait for counselling?

We aim to offer initial consultation within two weeks of your contacting Relate, subject to your availability. We always try to arrange your counselling as soon as possible and subject to your availability. The more flexible you can be about your appointment, the sooner we will be able to help you.

Can I bring my children?

No. Children can be distracting to other clients. You may lose your appointment if you bring your child Relate.
